How to follow a No-Spend Month

Hola,

We all heard about No shave November. So while we can have No SHAVE months why don’t we have NO SPEND months. And why not start with the upcoming month or whichever month you want to start.
But once you start following it.. you’ll see a drastic change in your lifestyle.
Believe me, these words are coming from an impulsive shopper and spender. But I’m trying to mend my spending habits and also want to guide and help others to do the same. So why should we follow no spend month?

The factors that influence overspending:

  • Fast Fashion Choices
  • Moody shopping
  • Online shopping
  • Take out / Dine out
  • #FOMO
  • Lifestyle comparisons

Problem: No matter how cool the fast fashion trend is cool and pretty, but all it results in is landfills and overloaded wardrobes.
Solution: Instead of impulse buying things out just because they are “in” now. Make a conscious choice and build a minimalist and classic wardrobe by investing in timeless pieces.

Problem: Impulsive or mood-related shopping is never a good idea. it only leads to a decrease in bank balance and an increase in clutter around you.
Solution:  If you feel you don’t have any major shopping requirements uninstall all the shopping apps from your phone and log out from all the websites on your desktop too. This will ensure that our lazy selves will not be dragged towards impulse shopping cravings.

Problem: Since food from our favorite restaurants can be ordered with just a click. Nowadays after the relaxation of covid restrictions, everyone is inclining towards ordering takeout than home-cooked food.
Solution: Go to your near local market and stock up on groceries, fresh fruits, and vegetables. So you can have healthy and tasty meals at your home.

It’s Never a good idea to compare our lives with others and never to compare over materialistic things. So it’s best to always evaluate our lives, priorities, and goals and manifest those than chasing down other people’s paths and collecting stones.

Few tips to help you plan and follow your No Spend Month perfectly:

Set a saving goal: Set a goal to save at least 20% to 60% of your income.
Prioritize your spending options: First pay off the primary bills like rent, electricity, gas, and grocery bills.
Use what you have before buying anything new
Think 100 times before deciding to buy if you require it or not.
Re-engage your focus: If you feel a strong impulse to shop then first declutter your home, donate and throw out things that are unused or unwanted. This gives you a clear perspective on whether to bring new things in or not.
Maintain a money journal: this helps you to keep track of debits and credits, I mean income, save and spend lists.

Always remember “Never get hung up on being perfect – improvement is the goal”.
